NYC: The Weekend Recap
The New York Fashion weekend and launch of my first mix was a success!
After catching up with my brother in Morristown, I headed into NYC. Naturally, I missed my train from Morristown to Penn Station, so he had to drive me in. I felt pretty guilty after since traffic proved to be the apocolypse.
Destination: Soho. This was a questionable decision. I was staying with my friend in Little Italy, but finding her on Fashion’s Night Out was a disaster. Not only did I have my rolling luggage dredging through the crowds of SoHo, but I ran over a dozen people’s feet with my bag since it was so crowded. By the end of my safari through Prince Street, a girl was yelling from behind me “hey man with the suitcase, watch your shit!” New York, you’re always so hospitable. <3
I finally connected with my friend Alexandra – but that wasn’t the friend who I was staying with. We embarked to try to find Jeannette and eventually found her, looking dazed and confused in the middle of Lafayette – outfitted with makeup samples, having the time of her life. Apparently complimentary cocktails at every major store in SoHo, live deejays and free merchandise made her completely unaware of her phone vibrating for the entire previous hour.
We trekked through SoHo for a hot minute until Jeannette and friend Laura ran out of steam and stopped for a break. Alexandra and I continued the journey on our own and arrived at Jeannette’s apartment shortly after. It was definitely a stressful start to the trip – we quickly threw my luggage down and made drinks.
There were so many people who I wanted to see in NYC. Many of the people I’ve worked with on my blog have been internet-only relationships; the people I feel like I know because we communicate and collaborate so much through email, twitter, and facebook. I was anxious to finally meet up with all of them and prove that I’m a real-life human being.
The night took us to Red Velvet on Rivington St. to meet up with Erik Zeyher (DJ EZ) who I missed meeting by a few hours last August. My last day in New York after my summer internship with Dj Chachi was his first day in the city. A year later, we were finally able to connect.
After lounging to Erik’s sounds and taking celebratory tequila shots because it had taken us so long to connect, Alexandra and I headed up to Amnesia to meet up with Jason Smith, a long time favorite deejay and person of mine. Jason’s been on tour this year with Cisco Adler and Shwayze, and was only in town for the night before hitting the road again with Shwayze. I lucked out that our schedules coincided and we were able to meet up. Jason did his thing on the turntables which is always fun to watch. Amnesia is a really cool, multi-leveled venue – and the bartender looked like Kim Kardashian, which was also wonderful.
Saturday night was equally fun. We started off at the SoHo Grand Hotel for Seven’s launch of their new SYN line. The venue was packed inside and outside, so we headed up to the lobby. No idea why we left the open bar downstairs at the event to go upstairs for $15 drinks, but anyways… The girls were distracted the whole time by a Gossip Girl character (I don’t even know which one… not Leighton), I didn’t even recognize her. It’s tough to distinguish celebrities in New York because most everyone dresses, looks, and acts like them.
We made a quick pit stop at Canal Room for my friend’s friend’s birthday party. I was really impressed by the 80’s cover band. Unfortuneately, I had to rush out since impatient friends were outside texting me to head to the next venue.
Next up was meeting Dj Nick Russo for the first time, who I’ve known only through twitter and facebook. He was holding down the deejay booth at Libation (on the Lower East Side), which is a cool, multi-floored venue with different music on each floor. Somehow we started out on the 3rd floor (which seemed like the hip-hop floor) and there was an older guy deejaying – that’s definitely not Nick… I was so confused.
We went down floor by floor, which took forever because girls always get sidetracked and lose other girls. I will never understand the phenomenom of how girls misplace their friends and belongings so often. We lost a friend outside, none of us had cell service, one girl lost her wallet and ID, so things got off to a rough start.
Across the first floor I finally could see Nick – who was a really great guy and deejay. He popped out of the deejay booth for the second to get a round of Coffee Patron shots for the five of us (we had met up with Alexandra’s two friends, Sanaz and Ashton). The patron was delicious, the music was really good, and the crowd was loving Nick.
(Also, the door guy at Libation was really nice to us – he gave me his business card to call in the morning about the girl’s missing wallet… genuinely nice door guys do still exist! Thank you Libation!)
The night progressed to the Meatpacking District where Vinny Goods was holding things down across the street from tenjune at Sea. Vinny is like a deejay-God around my friends – many of them were eager to know if I was going to meet up with him before I left for New York. Vinny’s One Summer Night mix has created a big influx of fans for him.
By the time Saturday night was over, I was beyond exhausted. The only thing I could think about was eating pizza and killing my buzz. It was certainly a memorable weekend – I really enjoyed getting to see and connect with everybody who I’ve had a chance to work with over the past year. I hope to return and do it all over again soon!
Until next time…

I loved hearing EVERYTHING about your weekend! From Prince Street to the Meatpacking District, I felt like I was there and wish I could have been.
Excellent blog! I really love how it is easy on my eyes as well as the data are well written. I am wondering how I can be notified whenever a new post has been made. I have subscribed to your rss feed which need to do the trick! Have a nice day!
